District Court New South Wales

Types of cases

The District Court hears both civil claims, and criminal case as well as some appeals. It also has a compensation jurisdiction over some matters involving compensation for work injuries; and hears cases about offences committed under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

Civil cases
Motor accident cases and other claims up to $1,250,000
Criminal cases
The Court hears criminal cases, including referrals from Local and Children’s Courts
Compensation jurisdiction cases
Compensation jurisdiction cases include specific superannuation and workers' compensation matters
Work Health and Safety Act cases
Offences committed under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011
Appeals
Appeals the Court hears including Local Court and Children's Court decisions
