The Honourable Justice Belinda Rigg was sworn-in as a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 24 July 2024. Her Honour graduated from the University of Sydney with degrees in Arts and Law and was called to the Bar in 1998. Prior to her appointment to the Supreme Court bench her Honour was a long serving public defender who’s practice for a considerable time mainly focused on large, complex homicide matters. Justice Rigg became the first woman to be appointed as the Senior Public Defender in New South Wales in 2019. Her Honour took silk in 2014.
