Experienced barrister Shereef Habib SC has today been appointed as a judge of the District Court of New South Wales.
Mr Habib brings more than three and a half decades of legal expertise to the bench across criminal law, commercial litigation and common law. He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2009.
He has appeared in various jurisdictions including High Court, Federal Court, and across NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania.
Mr Habib began his legal career in 1989 as an Associate to a Federal Court judge.
He then joined private firm Freehills as a solicitor in 1990, working mainly in litigation.
In 1993 he took on a role with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions before being called to the NSW Bar in 1995.
Mr Habib will be sworn in as a District Court judge on 31 July 2025.
