In the financial year 2023/2024 the NSW Criminal Courts finalised 5% fewer appearances than in 2022/2023. This reduction was due to a reduction in finalisations in the Local Court, which finalised 5% fewer matters in 2023/2024 than in the previous year.   

In 2023/2024, the median time from arrest to finalisation for defended hearings in the Local Court was 279 days. This is 17 days shorter than in 2022/2023 (296 days) but 66 days longer than in 2019/20 (213 days). The median time from arrest to finalisation for trials finalised in the District Court was 826 days. This is 43 days longer than in 2022/2023 (783 days) and 103 days longer than in 2019/20 (723 days).
