NSW Recorded Crime Statistics quarterly update June 2026

Summary

  • Over the two years to June 2026, recorded crime in NSW remained largely stable. Of the 13 major offence categories, only steal from retail store increased significantly (up 10.4%) and the remaining 12 major offence categories were stable.
  • Police-initiated adult court proceedings rose by 11.6% over the past two years. This growth was driven by increases in driving offences (accounting for 40% of the overall increase), particularly driving while disqualified or suspended, domestic violence offences (one-third of the total growth), and drug possession offences (10% of the overall growth).
  •  Police-initiated court proceedings against young people were unchanged over the past two years across NSW, Greater Sydney and Regional NSW. Formal youth diversion, however increased by 7.7%, driven by growth in youth cautions.
