Use of phones and recording devices

Photography, filming, and audio recording are strictly prohibited in courtrooms and public areas of the court unless you have received explicit permission from a judicial officer. This includes using mobile phones to record, stream, or take photos.

Mobile phones must be switched off before entering a courtroom. Even silent notifications or vibrations can disrupt proceedings and may result in a warning or removal from the courtroom.

Unauthorised use of recording devices or disruptive phone use in court may result in:

  • fines or criminal charges under the Court Security Act 2005.
  • confiscation of devices.
  • removal from the court premises.
  • potential contempt of court proceedings, depending on the severity.

These rules apply to all court attendees, including parties to a case, witnesses, jurors, and members of the public.
